JIMMY SHAND BIOGRAPHY
Jimmy has been described as the finest button accordion player in the world. That may or may not be so, but there can be no disputing the fact that he is the most popular of all Scottish dance musicians, and one of the best loved of contemporary Scottish figures.
James Anderson Shand is his full name, and he was born at East Wemyss, Fife, in 19--(?). Strangely enough he cannot remember exactly when he first attempted to play the accordion, but it was when he was so young that he could scarcely hold it by himself. " And that's the age to begin," Jimmy believes, " whatever the instrument."
There is no finer exponent of Scottish Country Dance Music. For twenty years Jimmy's band has been accepted as the very best of its kind. It was in 1933 that Jimmy made his first recording on the famous, but now extinct, Regal Zonophone label. Since then the total number of his records sold is astronomical.
